Recycled materials
2009
Chandelier is one of a series of light installations that explores the reuse of materials and sustainable forms of lighting. It was commissioned by Metal Culture for its official launch of Chalkwell Hall as a space for art, culture and regeneration. This followed the Hall's renovation and refurbishment by Bill Dunster’s low carbon architecture practice, zedfactory.
Connecting the Hall with its landscape context, Chandelier comprises a permanent sculpture for the Hall's interior, and an installation for the 110 metre, historic avenue of trees that leads to it. Actively engaging the Hall’s local population in its creation, the work asked them to consider issues relating to recycling and sustainability. In this way Chandelier expresses the potential of art to effect positive environmental and social change.
