The Studio Garden has been created expressly as a space of close observation and experimentation. It exemplifies the ‘garden as process’, developing and refining the team’s understanding of space and time in light. It is put to use for the prototyping and modelling of sculpture and installation, and the trialling of new plant varieties for performance. It is an actively husbanded space, inspiring an intimate engagement with that most critical medium: the earth.
The Garden also functions importantly as a productive space of rest and renewal. It provides fresh vegetables, herbs, eggs and fruit for lunch, harvested materials for Thadian's studio practice, and the still simple pleasure of cut flowers for the table. Framing the travel required by the Studio’s portfolio of projects, it is the beguiling space of tranquillity and mindfulness in which the day may begin and close.
