New Appointment
19 September 2019
We are pleased to announce that this month, Thadian has been appointed to the Board of Directors & Trustees of The Gardens Trust: the UK’s national charity dedicated to protecting and conserving the country’s heritage of designed landscape and gardens. This new appointment took place at Oxford University, and follows Thadian's success as Chair of Essex Gardens Trust, one of The Gardens Trust’s ancillary, partner charities. In that role he successfully led the county organisation from its previous collapse, to the revitalised activity, increased membership, volunteer engagement, and new-found relevance it currently enjoys.
Of his new appointment to the national, strategic charity, Thadian says: ‘I’m looking forward to working with the Board and staff of The Gardens Trust. They have successfully negotiated its challenging first four years, since its creation in 2015 from the merger of the former Garden History Society and Association of Garden Trusts. I’ve been appointed specifically to support the strategic development of the organisation. In a time of global mass migration, climate change and political upheaval, we need to make explicit why heritage landscapes and gardens matter at all; where their social value and meaning for contemporary audiences actually lies. I look forward to supporting the Board in this, and contributing to that process.’
